Lent - A Time for Forgiving and Releasing

ALTAR.2.jpg

In the Christian tradition, today is Ash Wednesday - the beginning of the season of Lent.  Lent is a time for self-examination;  a time for turning away from those things that keep us apart from Christ, from God, from the Divine Source.  It is a time of forgiving and releasing.  It is a time for forgiving others and releasing that energy;  and, more importantly, it is a time for forgiving ourselves and releasing all of that energy that we have held onto probably for a very long time.

This is a good thing for all of us to do -- no matter what our faith path is.  Over this season of Lent, begin each day by first praying for those you love.    Then pray for those that you do not love. Pray for their well-being.  Pray forgiveness and letting go.  And, now, pray for yourself.  Pray for your well-being.  Pray your forgiveness of yourself and your own letting go.

Begin Lent by writing down then names of the ten people who you are closest to.  Include your parents, siblings, spouse, and children — and include yourself.

Write: “I forgive and release {Name} for  . . .  {say it all, let those emotions flow onto the paper}, and I forgive and release myself for . . .  {let it all out}.

Do not go back and read what you have written.  You do not want to pull it back in.   Build a sacred fire and safely burn those papers.  Continue the process as often as you can throughout Lent, adding the names of whoever comes forward in your mind, and always including yourself.

Do this every day, and see how your life changes!
